Model United Nations: The Basics
A Model United Nations conference (short MUN conference), is a simulation of the United Nations that takes place over several days. It connects dedicated pupils from all over the world by providing a platform to collectively draft solutions for pressing global issues.
One or several delegates in one delegation represent a nation’s position and act in its interest within one of the UN’s committees.
Students engage in diplomatic negotiations with representatives of other nations both during and outside of official committee sessions to reach consensus on topics such as international security or sustainable economic development.
Bridging team effort and individual debating skills, as well as fuelling determination and increasing the motivation to reach mutual ground on controversial topics. This holistic approach towards the simulation includes English as the official conference language and formal attire.
Conference Theme of 2019:
Peace, Prosperity and Security
As national governments begin to shift more and more in the direction of isolationism and protectionism, as war between countries seems inevitable and the thread of climate change becomes more and more visible, the global community finds itself torn between the historical significance of sovereign statehood and the necessity for multilateral cooperation.

With nationalistic parties seizing power in the parliaments of member states all over the world, it seems as if we have taken a step back in time, away from sustainable international collaboration. Waves of immigrants fleeing political persecution, social injustices and dire humanitarian and environmental crises’ look for help - a paradox that will surely carry long term consequences for peace, prosperity and security all over the globe. The future, however, isn’t as dark as some might currently perceive it to be, for there is hope. Our hope for a brighter tomorrow is manifested in the in the cooperation possible in the United Nations.

As chair of the uniquely interesting UNSC I am more than grateful to welcome you at LakeMUN 2019 and I am really looking forward to experiencing a great conference with you. Having attended various conferences abroad and serving as chair four times, Iam now very excited for my first MUN in beautiful Friedrichshafen. I'm looking forward to innovative ideas, heated debates, amazing evenings and new friendships. During my normal, non-MUN life, I'm studying law in Berlin. Besides saving the world with astonishing delegates, I like riding my horse, playing the piano, meeting friends and discovering the Berlin nightlife. Also, I am working on a voluntary basis at UNICEF and Amnesty International. Obviously human rights are very important to me, which is why I am very interested in your well researched country positions on the issue on the Agenda. I am convinced that this year's UNSC at LakeMUN will be as efficient ans ever and I cannot wait to meet all of you in October!
